Crew Positions and Film Lingo

Location Manager – is responsible for the finding and securing locations to be used for the production.
Director – the person in charge of all creative elements of the film, the “vision”, the transfer of script to screen, and the overall performances of the actors.
Camera Operatorthe person who is responsible for the “framing” of each shot.
Boom Operatorthe person who is responsible for keeping the microphone as close to the actor’s as possible (without the microphone being in the shot)
Cinematographer - The person who is responsible for lighting the film to create the right mood.
Continunity - the person who’s responsible for recording every action of every moment in each shot. Keeps track of wardrobe and props, and their positions during every take.

FILM LINGO

Set – where the actual shooting is taking place.
Hot Set – the set must remain exactly the same as the last shot. If anything is “hot” it means it will be seen on camera again and must remain untouched.
Scene – a part of the film composed of a series of shots. Usually takes place in one time and place.
Dolly – platform on wheels where the camera is mounted to be pushed/pulled for a smooth movement.

THINGS YOU WILL SAY ON A SET

LOCK IT UP – to prevent any activity or disruptions that could interfere with the shot. Applies when working in hallways to stop people from walking into a shot the crew will make sure traffic doesn’t disrupt the scene.
ROLLING – means both camera and sound are rolling and all noises must stop until CUT is called.
ACTION – cue that gives the actors to start their actions, dialogue and movement.
CUT – when the shot is complete or if there are any problems.
